Debunking the myth.
Before proceeding to further detail the Zero Net Water development concept, we must dispose of a prevailing myth. An immediate, practically knee-jerk, objection to centering water supply strategy on distributed building-scale rainwater harvesting is that harvesting rainwater off rooftops would “rob” the watershed of streamflow and/or recharge, and would thus produce no net gain in the available, usable water supply. But a closer look shows this is not the case.
