It is doubtful that there are many natural-born artists. Artistic talent usually is developed through realizations and periods of growth that are shaped by family and friends and personal experiences. Mary Barton is a Wimberley artist who has enjoyed such a journey.
Barton was raised in the Panhandle town of Pampa. She attended Texas Tech before moving to Central Texas. She lived in Austin for 15 years, and that is where she met her husband. They have two sons. Their family has lived in Wimberley for 12 years. With time, Barton began to appreciate the rich artistic environment that exists in the Hill Country and tapped into her family's close association with art.
