Wimberley Business and Professional Association will hold their Fifth Annual Blanco River Spring Cleanup in Wimberley on Saturday, May 17. Each Spring WBPA members and volunteers get together and clean up a portion of the river and surrounding areas. Beginning at 7A Ranch, debris will be collected as crews walk or kayak the river to the Blanco River bridge. Other crew members walk along River Road, collecting the trash littering the roadside.
Before taking on this project, several WBPA members met with Tom Goynes, president of the Texas Rivers Protection Association and organizer of many river cleanups around the state, to discuss the logistics and procedures. Tom was extremely helpful in giving advice and educating the group on the procedures to follow for organizing the event. H-E-B, central market and Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) as part of the Keep Texas Waterways Clean program also provides support in the form of trash bags, gloves, posters, etc.
