Brewing can bring butterflies

If you like butterflies, mark your calendar for November 1-4, dates of the 19th annual Texas Butterfly Festival in Mission. There will be field trips, a photo contest and “fun for the whole family,” according to festival organizers. Visit texasbutterflyfestival.com for information.
One concoction that helps attract butterflies at the National Butterfly Center in Mission is something called “banana brew.” It is spread on rough log segments throughout the center and supposedly is a butterfly magnet. Of course, it helps that there are some 300 butterfly species in that Rio Grande Valley locale.
