Woodcreek’s Maggie Carpenter has just finished an experiment in volunteering that’s helped her learn Spanish while she helps children learn English.
Last October, she began conducting “L Hora de Cuenta” or “Story Time” for 4- and 5-year-olds at Scudder Elementary School in Wimberley.
The program consists of her leading an ice-breaking exercise, such as a puppet show, and then reading three books and leading two songs. The books and songs are in English for these children whose first language is Spanish.
