Today we are going to discuss a topic that a lot of men have been hearing about on television, testosterone deficiency or low T. The formal name for low T is hypoadrogenism, which is a common problem among aging men and often goes unrecognized and/or under diagnosed. In men declining testosterone is associated with normal aging. Some chronic conditions may be associated with low T levels as well as genetic predisposition. Some men can remain without symptoms and others may experience symptoms that vary in intensity from erectile dysfunction, loss of libido and infertility to more physical symptoms such as increase or decrease in fat mass, low bone density, weakness and balding along with fatigue or depression just to cover a few.
Testosterone deficiency is determined by assessing certain lab values along with a physical exam. Once low T is determined treatment can begin with the application of testosterone gels, injectable testosterone or slow deposition pellets. Of course, certain contraindications for treatment do exist. Here at Crescent View we screen and treat men for testosterone deficiency and would be happy to assist you with your healthcare needs, questions or concerns.
