County joins mosquito-trapping program to ‘Fight the Bite’

From Staff Reports

Hays County is fighting the bite this mosquito season by trapping the blood-thirsty insects to help determine where disease-carrying mosquitoes might be lurking. County officials are also encouraging residents to make their homes and yards less attractive for mosquitoes by removing even small amounts of stagnant water where mosquitoes like to breed.
“While not all mosquitoes carry disease, several species found in Central Texas do,” said Clint Garza, Director of Development & Community Services for Hays County. “Infected mosquitoes can carry some nasty diseases – known as arboviruses – they share with humans and animals when they bite.”
