Long-time Wimberley resident Johnson named VFW Rodeo Grand Marshal

Bill Johnson remembers a time in Wimberley when it seemed like the town vacated, at least those who could, to support the United States of America.
It was the 1940s, when Johnson moved to Wimberley, and World War II began.
“In Wimberley, Texas, there wasn’t anyone of fighting age that wasn’t gone,” Johnson said. “The whole town went. They all went early, and some stayed late. Some people where gone for five years. It was a good war, and we were united. When you fight on a team, and have a team spirit, it’s a wonderful feeling.”
