Texas is now the second most populated state and the San Marcos area is the fastest-growing spot in the U.S. Yet much of that growth has occurred in areas outside of municipalities where fire protection is largely left to volunteers and there is no fire code to regulate homes and businesses.
To rectify that, Hays County Fire Marshal Mark Chambers will make a presentation to county commissioners on Tuesday about a proposed county fire code. According to the Texas State Data Center, “the near term population projection for Hays County is 157,107 with projections of over 250,000 by 2020,” Chambers wrote in his proposal.
