Surrounded by the “fastest growing city in the U.S.” (San Marcos), “the Alamo City” (San Antonio) and the “Live Music Capital of the World” (Austin), a visitor might think that Wimberley doesn’t have character of its own. Not only does Wimberley have character, but also has its characters. In order to experience one of them, all you have to do is buy some groceries at Brookshire Brothers and listen.
Ken Kimmons is the voice behind the announcements at Brookshire’s. The mere mention of his name or what he does, brings a smile to customers’ faces. He’ll start out with a big “Howdy, how’s everyone doing today?” and then proceed to talk about the specials that the store is running. But he does it in a purely “Ken” way.
“It’s going to be a scorcher today, too hot to cook. Why not check out our deli for supper.” He talks on a “one-to-one basis, just like we’re talking here, which I call down home country.”
