Hays County Commissioners waited until the last possible day to call a fall bond election to finance a new jail and other public safety improvements, and then put it off.
In a unanimous vote at Monday’s special meeting, commissioners and County Judge Bert Cobb decided instead to hold a bond election next May.
Back in May of this year, commissioners heard a presentation from consultants Broaddus and Associates about the need for a new jail before personnel at the existing 362-bed facility had to resort to “baling wire and duct tape.”
