Deer Creek of Wimberley has a unique view of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
“We have had some patients with ALS before,” Deer Creek Nurse Aide Jenny Kyle said. “Also, many of the symptoms are similar to certain stages of Alzheimer's, it’s just a heart breaking disease.”
The team at Deer Creek decided to take their step for awareness to the next freezing-cold level with the ALS Ice bucket Challenge.
The challenge has been sweeping the internet raising donations and awareness for the disease.
“Most don’t know that there is a reason that ice-cold water was used in this challenge,” Kyle said. “When it’s dumped on your head, it shocks the nervous system like ALS does. You can’t breathe. You can’t scream.”
Most of all, Deer Creek wanted to get the community of Wimberley involved in the Ice Bucket Challenge.
For those that don’t know, participants in the Ice Bucket Challenge get to nominate someone else also. Deer Creek sent their message by calling out Brookshire Brothers.
