Special to the View
If you travel to Africa anytime soon, I will be most interested in hearing your report on what wildlife you encounter. But I will only be impressed if your sightings include a Pel's fishing-owl. That, apparently, is one rare and very desirable species.
I know because although I saw loads of nice birds and animals on my trip to the Dark Continent, only that owl truly impressed the guides I was traveling with.
We visited Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, and among the notable birds we saw were lilac-breasted roller, saddle-billed stork, red bishop, fish-eagle, red-billed hornbill, secretary bird and white-bellied go-away-bird. We also enjoyed seeing elephants, zebras, rhinos, water buffaloes, hippos and giraffes.
