A good-bye ceremony for Bowen Elementary and a welcoming ground breaking for HEB was held on Thursday of last week.
Many former teachers, students and staff of Bowen Elementary were on hand to share memories about the school that opened in 1945.
“Bowen was the heart of the community,” Johnna Dennis, a W.I.S.D teacher who taught at Bowen from 1999 through 2009, said. “We could walk to Bill and M.F. Johnson’s property and learn about wildflowers. We could walk to the Winter’s House and learn about Wimberley’s history, or we could walk to the library to read. Bowen was in the center of everything.”
