LWV to host candidate debate

From Staff Reports

The Wimberley Valley Unit of the San Marcos Area League of Women Voters will host a Candidates Debate on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Johnson Room at the Wimberley Community Center.  The debate will include candidates for the city council and mayor.  The candidates participating are:
Mayor:  Tom Talcott,   Steve Thurber,  Mac McCullough
City Council Place 2:  Mary Kathryn Brown,   Cindy Anderson,   Ed Foster
City Council Place 4:     Pam Showalter
Each candidate will have the opportunity to give an introductory and closing statement.
The Moderator, Carole Belver from San Marcos, will ask five (5) questions of each city council candidate and three (3) questions of each mayoral candidate. After their answers and rebuttals, the audience will have an opportunity to ask the candidates questions.
The community is urged to attend and gain information from the candidates to enable eligible voters to make informed decisions during early voting or on election day.
For the first time the League will be publishing a Voters Guide in the Wimberley View. The League will, as usual, place copies at the Wimberley Library and other venues around town.
The League of Women Voters is a grassroots, nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Therefore, the League neither supports nor opposes any candidate or political party.
