Caroline Elizabeth Brooke Schindler

Caroline Elizabeth Brooke Schindler, 83, entered the arms of our Lord on May 12, 2014. She was born on January 23, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas to John Rutter Brooke Jr. and Elizabeth Gerhard Brooke. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School (San Antonio) where she was a member of the Jefferson Lassos. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and the University of Texas at Austin where she met Joseph Edward Schindler. They were married on July 29, 1950 in Austin, Texas.
They began their life together in Joe’s hometown of Edinburg, Texas and in 1968 opened their own business, Schindler Construction Company. Caroline was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and many school and civic organizations including the Edinburg Junior Service League, Pan American Round Table, 4-H, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts. In 1982 Joe and Caroline moved to Wimberley, Texas to be closer to their children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (Joe) Edward Schindler; sister, Barbara King; and brother, John R. Brooke III. She is survived by her children, Gail Schindler, Christie (Richard) Montgomery, Mary Lou Sheffield, Diana Schindler, Eric (Lorrie) Schindler, Barbara (Bruce) Cumberland, Hans Schindler, and Marilyn Chamberlin; grandchildren, Janell (Christopher) Medlin, Kate (Joshua) Wagner, Tyler (Samantha) Montgomery, Justin (Carol) Sheffield, Jamey (Joshua) Amell, Erin Schindler, Kyle Schindler, Jacob Schindler, Caleb Cumberland, Britney Schindler, Joseph Schindler, Morgan Schindler, and Danielle Chamberlin; and great-grandchildren, Jadzia Lahn, Robert J. Lahn, Fantasia Ramos Sheffield, Delainee Schindler, and Delilah Schindler.
A funeral Mass will be held on July 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wimberley followed by the burial of her ashes at the Wimberley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter or a favorite charity. The family would like to send a special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice of Austin for the care they gave our mother during her final days.
