Gems in the Woodwork: Local man crafts woodwork, gives to Wounded Warriors

“When people ask me why we started doing this, I tell them, 'well, because the chickens died,’” Benito Loera says, sitting at his dining room table as a woman cooks something that smells very good nearby. Several men wearing tool belts over sawdust covered clothes pass through the kitchen stopping to ask Loera to confirm measurements and various other instructions. Outside, his crew is scrambling to finish the last piece they will be taking to the 11th Annual Texas Masters of Fine Art and Craft Invitational Exhibition at Y.O. Ranch Resort Hotel in Kerrville.
