Camp started to help young students avoid ‘Summer Slide’

From Staff Reports

This summer, for the first time, 110 Wimberley elementary school children will attend a day camp designed to combat the “summer slide” they often experience before entering the next grade.
Wimberley ISD and Good Samaritan Community Services (GSCS) are partnering to provide “Camp Good Sam – Wimberley” for at-risk youth entering grades 1-5.  According to WISD’s Assistant Superintendent Dee Howard, 40 percent of students in these grades are tracked as at-risk of not graduating from high school.
