Manhunt ends
Louis Antonio Ramos Jr., 27, of Driftwood, turned himself into police around 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon after leading them on a manhunt for 18 hours. Ramos is the prime suspect in the death of Johnny Lee Saxon, 47, of Driftwood, which occurred on Wednesday night.
Police believe that Ramos was shot twice during the altercation on Wednesday at a home at 400 Todo Lane in the Rolling Oaks subdivision. Saxon was shot in the chest.
According to police, Ramos fled the scene, ditching a brown van in the woods near the crime. Police used a K-9 unit to follow the scent and tracked Ramos to the area near Jacob's Well Road and Mount Sharp Road around noon on Thursday. Ramos called police a few hours later and turned himself in near the corner of Coleman Crossing and Mount Sharp Road, a short distance from where police had been searching.
Ramos has "extensive criminal history" according to the Hays County Sheriff's Office, and his criminal record shows over 20 charges have been filed against him since 2006 ranging from assault and drugs to traffic tickets.
