Judy went home to be with Jesus on July 4, 2014 at Seton Hays Medical Center in Kyle after a long battle with liver failure due to hepatitis C. She is survived by her sister Jamie Boozer, daughters Jennifer Eckhart and Natalie Eckhart Petersen, her husband of 32 years, William R. “Bill” Pool, and grandchildren, Brenton, Aleigha and Austin.
Judy was born on July 25, 1944 in Pasadena to Betty Jo and James Doolan. She was the first of three children. Judy graduated in the class of 1962 from Milby High School in Houston where she was active in journalism and enjoyed writing poetry and reading Edgar Allen Poe. Judy attended Southwest Texas College in San Marcos for her freshman year where she was a member of the Strutters dance team. Judy left college to marry Bobby Eckhart in 1964. Bobby spent time in the Navy and then ran the family business in Houston. During this time Jennifer and Natalie were born and Judy sustained a back injury that would be a problem for the rest of her life. The marriage ended in 1978. Judy and Bill met in 1980 and were married about a year later in Clear Lake City, where they lived for about 14 years. They moved to Wimberley in 1996 in order for Bill to pursue a graduate degree at Texas State University.
Judy enjoyed decorating, gardening, traveling, candles, going to Galveston, country music and making the life of her family special in many ways. She always planned a celebration for birthdays and special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. Judy lived her Christian faith and encouraged us all to be what God had called us to be. She made our world a more beautiful place and her passing will leave a great empty place in our hearts but we are better for having known her.
Her funeral service was be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Thomason’s Funeral home located at 14700 Ranch Road 12, Wimberley. Burial will be at the San Marcos City Cemetery at 1 p.m. Please contact Thomason’s at (512) 396-2300 or www.thomasonfuneralhome.com for further details.
