Major Paul E. Porter
Major Paul E. Porter died August 13, 2014 in New Braunfels, TX. Paul was born March 22, 1923 in Emporia, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Anna Laura Porter, his brothers, Leonard and Glenn Porter and his sister, Dorothy Peckerck. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty Flanagan Porter of New Braunfels, TX; son, Mark Porter of Austin, TX; step-son, Dr. John R. Flanagan and his wife, Karen of New Braunfels, TX; step-daughter, Judy Kinsman of Florence, OR; and niece, Paulette Murrey and her husband, John of Branson, MO; plus numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Paul enlisted in the Army Air Division December 31, 1943. He retired June 12, 1962. During his years of service, Paul flew B29 and B52 bombers and all other types of aircraft. He also flew many border patrol missions over Germany and flew news crews to the front lines to film documentaries. Paul was a highly decorated war pilot and stayed on in Europe for two years, helping with the rebuilding process. After retiring from the military, Paul became the personal pilot for Texas Governor John Connelly and later became the Chief of Operations for Houston International Airport. Paul was a man of dignity and integrity who loved his family and country. We want to thank all of the staff at Rio Terra Senior Living Village and the wonderful care givers from CIMA Hospice.
