Letter to the Editor: Rep. Isaac is ready to rodeo

Please join me in supporting the 69th Annual Wimberley VFW July 4th Rodeo and their work to support Central Texas Veterans and our Central Texas community.
As your State Representative, I am proud to support the Wimberley Oldham-Cummings VFW Post in their largest fundraiser of the year.
The money raised by the Rodeo enables VFW Post 6411 to support various Central Texas Veteran causes, such as the Returning Heroes Home at Brooke Army Medical Hospital and the Wimberley Veteran's Memorial Plaza.
The Wimberley Oldham-Cummings VFW Post also supports the Central Texas community through various non-veteran projects such as college scholarships for our young people and awards for our educators and first responders.

PEC encourages members to help Co-op ‘Beat the Peak’

Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s power costs accounted for 67.5 percent of the co-op’s total operating expenses in 2013. PEC members can help reduce those wholesale power costs by participating in the co-op’s “Beat the Peak” program.
The Cooperative pays a higher price for electricity purchased from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. every day from June through September, when demand for electricity is highest. The “Beat the Peak” program encourages members to shift energy use away from that peak period, and more than 15,000 PEC members have already enrolled.

Mt. Baldy now closed to public

By Dalton Sweat
Editor

Mount Baldy, also known as Prayer Mountain and one of Wimberley’s iconic locations, is closed to the public as of last week. Since the steps were built in the 1950s, no one seems to remember a time when people weren’t allowed to hike to treeless rock perch that oversees the Wimberley Valley.
“I was stunned and very disappointed (last week) when I visited Mt. Baldy and found a chain across the access to the steps and ‘No Trespassing’ signs,” local resident Michael Freeman wrote to the Wimberley View. “I have been going to Mt.Baldy for over 10 years, and since I broke my back in 2004, the steps have been my main form of exercise. Wimberley High School athletes, Katherine Porter students and EMS train on these steps. This is an icon of Wimberley, popular with locals and visitors.”

Former First Lady stops by Wimberley

Former First Lady Laura Bush made her way through Wimberley last week for a trip with friends to Blue Hole. She posted this picture on her Instagram account, a social media site for posting photos, saying she was there to “beat the heat” and included the fact “Blue Hole Park is the first city park in the U.S. to be certified a sustainable site.” City Administrator Don Ferguson said that she had “very positive comments” about the park.

Intersection of RR 12, FM 3237 may be widened

By Dalton Sweat
Editor

The Wimberley City Council approved a conceptual design for the Ranch Road 12 and FM 3237 intersection on the south side of town.
There were two design concepts presented, one with an extended turn lane from the stoplight toward the square and one without.
Either option would require the city to obtain right-of-way from adjacent property owners.
The main reason for the change is to add a right-hand turn lane heading in to town on Ranch Road 12.
“There is a significant staking issue at that traffic light,” Wimberley City Administrator Don Ferguson said. “Sometimes, traffic will be all the way over the bridge.”

Concepts created for future Central Wimberley Master Plan

This is the "Corridor" concept developed by Design Workshop for the Central Wimberley Master Plan with city and community input. This is one of three options presented.

By Dalton Sweat

Wimberley already has a master plan, but the Wimberley City Council feels that there is a need for a more in-depth plan for the “Central Wimberley Area.”
The western boundary of Central Wimberley is Cypress Creek and the southern the Blanco River. The eastern boundry roughly follows FM-3237 toward Deer Creek of Wimberley until it cuts north to encompass the area near Blue Hole.
