If you’ve hung around Wimberley the last few weeks, it’s likely you’ve seen the masked teenagers walking around with signs reading “You are loved” and “Free hugs.”
While these loving teenagers have scared a few people, they mean no harm. In fact, they have a reason for the message that they are spreading.
“We know what it’s like to feel like no one really loves you,” Trey Carmichael, one of the masked teenagers and a junior at Katherine Ann Porter School, said. “We want to remind people that someone does love them and that there is always people who care about them. “

Matt Buchanan, owner of the Leaning Pear, accepted the Governor’s Small Business Council Small Business Award recently as the lone Wimberley recipient in the Hays and Caldwell County region.
“It definitely came as a surprise,” Buchanan said. “It’s never been our primary objective as a small business owner to focus on the business side. It’s always been a restaurant that supports the community first, but it’s great to get recognized for it.”

County Commissioners sign resolution opposing weakening of state water rights

From Staff Reports

The Hays County Commissioners Court has unanimously approved a resolution opposing proposed new rules that would expand the authority of the Clean Water Act (CWA) to include previously unregulated waters such as ditches, farm ponds, dry waterways and isolated wetlands.
“The Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers have proposed rules that in essence would infringe upon the sovereignty of the state to regulate its own waters,” said Hays County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D. “These two federal agencies failed to expand the CWA through legislation, and are now trying to gain more control by expanding their rules.”

City of Wimberley’s population declining: Growth may still be coming over entire Wimberley Valley

By Dalton Sweat

Growth. It’s a hot button topic to say the least.
In Wimberley, many decisions about the town’s future are based on whether or not growth is a good thing.  Even if it’s not, can it be stopped?
In reality, the concern may not even be necessary.
The U.S. Census Bureau recently released the population estimates for cities in 2013, and the city of Wimberley once again shrunk to an estimated population of 2,582.
When the city of Wimberley was incorporated in 2000, the population estimate was 2,691. The city has lost residents in 10 out of the last 13 years.

Wimberley under construction

Various lane closures have been happening throughout Wimberley as TxDOT repaves Ranch Road 12 from Wimberley to Dripping Springs. There are also three W.I.S.D projects, stemming from last year’s bond election, that are currently under construction. (Photo by Dalton Sweat/Wimberley View)

Ranch Road 12 from Cypress Creek to Dripping Springs is in the process of getting a face lift as the Texas Department of Transportation has been rolling out new blacktop for the last month and a half.
For a sleepy town like Wimberley, one construction project is likely to cause a stir, but there are currently four ongoing projects within city limits and another on the outskirts of town.

Mural to be painted to cover blight wall

By Dalton Sweat

A Plain Jane concrete wall isn’t always the most attractive thing to look at, especially in a city like Wimberley where people pride themselves on the arts, and Wimberley is about to do away with one of the plainest in town.
For years now, one of those concrete walls has been starring at passing cars and people along Ranch Road 12 in front of the Senior Thrift Shop.
