By Tom Wiley

Texas has been a hot market for microbreweries. Now, there's a growing trend to develop small, independent distilleries. David and Laura Watson have spent several years developing D.E.W. Distillation, L.L.C. and producing Cypress Creek Reserve Rum. It's been quite a journey, but one that has resulted in award winning products.
Laura came to Texas from Erie, Ill.

Director Bridget Farias Gates stayed faithful to the animated, musical version of the French fairytale.
The original, dark storyline is tamed to a family-friendly tale by author, Linda Woolverton.

From Staff Reports

Guy Forsyth is a rare combination of extraordinary talent. His energetic performance style is best described as a unique mixture, combining folk, rock, country and tin pan alley, creating sounds as raw as America itself and that sound will be in Wimberley on Thursday, June 19 at Suzanna’s Kitchen.

Strong year for hummingbirds

A buzzing beauty – the Broad Tailed Hummingbird in flight.

Jerry Hall

This has been a good year for hummingbirds in our area; I've had several reports of crowded feeders and buzzing beauties. Don't be too worried if your hummers fight over sugar-water feeders, even if you place them far apart. Some birds are simply extra territorial.
Do be worried if there are large spiders in the vicinity. Praying mantises and garden spiders are two major threats to these tiny birds. Mantises like to launch surprise attacks and spiders snare birds in sticky webs.

A Father’s Day poem by the city of Wimberley’s Poet Laureate

One Awesome Father
By Oda Lisa

My father does not play golf.
He is no bowler, either.
Instead of sports on TV,
Daddy watches over me.

He never shops at a store
Or ever prepares a meal.
Yet, my father does good deeds
And he meets my every need.

No school has ever taught him,
No diploma on the wall.
Still he holds a dear degree.
Grace to all is his decree.

Once, he gave me a brother,
Who is always my best friend.
For my sorrows, his heart bleeds
For well beings, he sows seeds.

In truth, my abba comes first.
To him all my “thank-yous” go.

Wimberley pair on the big stage: Sarah Jarosz and Kelsey Wilson broadcast nation wide on NPR’s etown made possible by another local graduate

Editor For years, Wimberley’s had a secret.

In a town that loves the rumor mill as much as this one does, keeping anything a secret is impressive, but nonetheless, it’s only those that live here who realize just how much musical talent there is within the valley. Outsiders are largely unaware.
That’s probably not the case anymore after what happened over the last week.
It took an all-to-familiar, yet wholly unexpected local, to bring together two of Wimberley’s finest young musicians, take them 950 miles to Colorado and then broadcast their unique tunes nationwide on the National Public Radio.

Roasters getting read for Conley

By Don Moore
Publisher

The Will Conley Roast is only two weeks away but the Roasters are chomping at the bit to have their chance at being a “stand up” comic. The Roast is being put on by the San Marcos Leadership Class of 2015 to help raise money to restore Ole' Betsy, the 1926 American-LaFrance pumper truck. The goal is to use the trucks in parades and during fire safety week at local schools and other community events in San Marcos.
