Wastewater permit for city: Public comment on Wimberley’s permit ends Aug. 25

Dalton Sweat
Editor

The city of Wimberley’s request to amend its wastewater permit for the Central Wimberley Wastewater System is up for public comment through Aug. 25.
The city has requested the amendment to allow for a wastewater system with an interim volume of 75,000 gallons per day and a maximum volume not to exceed 100,000 gallons.
The language in the permit that concerns many citizens is the potential for discharge of the treated effluent into Deer Creek; however, the city says that is a last option, not the plan.

Previous councils created three tiers of goals to order them by importance, and much of the first tier has already been completed or is currently being worked on.
The first priority was to develop a Central Wimberley Wastewater System, which the city is currently seeking a permit for.

The sales tax numbers are in for last month and Woodcreek, for the second time this year, received a large windfall.

For the August sales tax allocation, Woodcreek saw a 337 percent increase compared to August of last year. The total amount collected was $16,464.
This is the second time this year that the city has received a comparably large allocation from the comptrollers.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This letter is a call for action.  Are you aware that the City of Wimberley has submitted an application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for a proposed wastewater plant located at Blue Hole Park?
The proposed permit is a Direct Discharge permit for 75,000 gallons per day expandable to 100,000 gallons per day into Dry Deer creek which flows to the Blanco River entering just below the Ranch Road 12 bridge and upstream of the Rocky River Ranch Girl’s Camp, numerous residences, neighborhood river parks, B&Bs and the Texas State University Camp.

Hays County Sheriff's Office warning of impostor

From Staff Reports

The Hays County Sheriff's Office is warning the community of an impostor.

A press release from the sheriff says that the office has received multiple reports of a male subject calling people in Hays County claiming to be a Hays County Warrants Office. He then tells people that he is collecting an outstanding warrant amount and instructs people to obtain a prepaid credit card of gift card. He then asks them to call him back with the number of the card to take care of the warrant or they would be arrested.

"Hays County does not conduct any type of warrant collection by telephone," the release says. "We urge residents to contact the sheriff's office if they believe they have been victimized by this type of fraud to file a report."

The incidents are under investigation.

Land on Cypress Creek slated for development, purchased for preservation

(Submitted photo)

Land along Cypress Creek, which was once slated for the development of 46 condominiums called The Bluffs on Cypress Creek, has now been purchased by the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association.

The property is along Cypress Creek on the southside of Ranch Road 12, and is the outter edge of the Woodcreek City limits.

Developers initially entered into an agreement with the city of Woodcreek to build the condos in 2011, which kept the property from being developed even more densely. Many were concerned about the environmental effects of such a development along the creek just above Blue Hole while others were excited about the potential housing opportunities and growth.

After the developer recently backed out of the project, the property owner agreed to sell the land for $1.3 million to the WVWA.
