St. Stephen’s young archers now hold a place in Guinness World Records history.  The recent 2014 National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) Nationals held in Louisville, Kentucky was officially listed by Guinness as the largest archery tournament in the world.  The St. Stephen's archery team helped NASP® achieve this ranking while representing Wimberley as the number one elementary school archery team in Texas.
Though the school has not sent a full team to the national tournament since 2008, there has been at least one individual archer representing St. Stephen’s at nationals since then—and last year there were three.

WHS Special Olympian Texans worked hard this spring to bring home the bling. Volunteers and coaches put in many hours with athletes so they could perform their best in cycling and track and field events.
Head Coach Leslie Williams organized practices and led the students in their efforts to earn numerous awards.
“I am proud of each one of our athletes,” Williams said. “Many surpassed their personal times and distances in each event. They all listened to their coaches and volunteers, tried their hardest and most of all, had a great time.”

If the lingo being thrown around town is any clue, a new local heroine may have been named. It seems Wimberley has a new superhero.
Wimberley High School Senior Kally Long has been dubbed “State Girl” by some in the coach’s office after taking home her second UIL State Track & Field Championship in the pole vault last weekend.
It certainly didn’t come easy. Long is known for the dedication it takes to get to the top in any facet of life.

Baseball season over after loss in playoffs

One of the highlights of the 2014 season for the Texan baseball team was when JJ Weeks set a school record with 16 strikeouts in a game. (photo by Brenda Rau Photography).

The Texan baseball season came to an end  late last week in the first round of the playoffs as Somerset beat Wimberley 8-3.
The round was simply one game, and it finished off the Texan’s season.
The Texans did have their chances in the game.
In the second inning, while it was a one run game, the Texans loaded the bases but were unable to bring in a run.
