Flash Flood Watch for Memorial Day

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch from 7 p.m. on Monday, May 26 through noon on Tuesday, May 27 siting a "slow and steady rainfall" through the night. They are also predicting isolated spots of 3 inches of rainfall. The entire report is listed below.

MOISTURE OVER SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS...RESULTING IN A THREAT OF SLOW 
MOVING THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL TONIGHT INTO TUESDAY.

House burns down near Scudder Primary

Robert and Kelly Mann’s family lost their house on Monday morning to a fire that took more than four hours to put out.
The house is off Scudder Lane, just a few blocks from the Wimberley Fire Station.
If fact, the fire department did more than respond to the fire. They actually saw it themselves before those inside noticed.

New apartments coming to Woodcreek

In potentially the largest increase in bedrooms since Woodcreek became a city 30 years ago, the site development for a new apartment complex on Ranch Road 12 was approved during last week’s city council meeting.

County moves forward with payments for future water

Nine months after discussions began, Hays County Commissioners on Tuesday passed an amended agreement with Forestar (USA) Group on a 4-1 vote. 
The deal reserves 45,000 acre feet of water annually from the Simsboro formation of the Carrizo Wilcox Aquifer for which the county pays $1 million a year. The amended agreement also releases the first payment that had been held in escrow pending an opinion from the state attorney general on whether the county had the authority to enter into such an agreement.

Bond possible for new Hays jail

Citing the need to do so before resorting to “bailing wire and duct tape,” Hays County Commissioners on Tuesday heard a presentation about the future of public safety facilities and discussed financing a new jail and law enforcement building with a possible November bond election.
The bond election would be in the neighborhood of $100 to $120 million, and the discussion included bringing in the city of San Marcos in a “co-location” for police and sheriff’s deputies.

Commissioners urge state legislators to help vets

They don’t cause injuries that are visible, but traumatic brain injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are the “signature wounds” of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, Hays County Commissioners took steps to urge state legislators to provide more “funding and focus” to treat Texas veterans who suffer from these wounds by passing a resolution.

Wimberley's Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center hosted the Birdies for Business Golf Tournament, "Chipping in for Charity" at Quicksand Golf Course in Woodcreek on Friday, May 16th.  The 2014 golf tournament supported area businesses as a business showcase event and the proceeds will support our Visitor Center and Wimberley Adoption Group and Rescue (WAG).   This event offered a great day of fun, golf, prizes, and networking for both golfers and business sponsors.
