After months of preparation, the Wimberley High School Cheerleader’s Spring Show is ready to roll. 
The spring show is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the cheerleaders, and it helps pay for training and skills camps with professionals.

San Marcos teacher wins Lifetime Achievement award from H-E-B

On Saturday, May 3, H-E-B announced statewide winners of the 13th annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards during a banquet at Houston’s Royal Sonesta Hotel, and a San Marcos elementary school teacher won the Lifetime Achievement award.
Connie Bagley, who teaches at Crockett Elementary in San Marcos, was named a finalist for the states Teacher of the Year Award. She has now been awarded H-E-B’s Lifetime Achievement award which comes with a $25,000 award for Bagley and $25,000 for Crocket Elementary.

FM 32 shutdown for accident

11:08 a.m. - According to the Wimberley Fire Department, an accident has shutdown FM32 one mile west of Ranch Road 12.

Update 11:50 a.m. - The accident involved a car and a motorcycle. According to officials on the scene, the two people riding the motorcycle were transferred to University Medical Center Brackenridge in an unknown condition. The two people in the car declined medical attention. At least one lane of FM 32 is now open.

Home values in WISD skyrocket

The Hays Central Appraisal District has appraised average house in the Wimberley Independent School District at a value about $13,500 more in than last year. The average house within the school district’s reach is now valued at $211,144. The appraisal district  is scheduled to start mailing 74,526 appraisal notices on May 1.

Wimberley Water heads to stage 3

The drought is back — that is if it ever really left. After the Halloween Flood last year, water restrictions were lifted, but the Wimberley Water Supply is implementing stage 3 water restrictions.
Starting today, Wimberley Water will be working towards a 20 percent reduction in total water use, 10 percent more than in stage 2.

Old tree cut down for construction

The view looking into WISD Stadium was sure to change as construction started to put a new field house in place of the old concession stand, but many didn’t expect the view to change quite as drastically as it has.
Many of the trees, including at least one that was quite old, were torn from the ground last week sparking a controversy through town, but as it is with many issues, there may be more to the story than what has made it to the rumor mill.

One of Wimberley’s iconic places was lifted, twisted and changed last week.
The 49.5-ton diving rock at Jacob’s Well, which jumping from has been called a right of passage for Wimberley’s youth, was moved for safety reasons.

Letter to the Editor: County water plan is too expensive

I do not believe the population of San Marcos can, or wants, to pay for two long pipelines to bring water to the San Marcos area. It is horrifically expensive to transport water by pipeline. Here is information from the 2013-2014 Budget of the City of San Marcos: Page 8:  "The City of San Marcos is a member of the Hays Caldwell Public Utility Agency which is a joint venture between San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, and several regional water corporations who are working together to firm up future water supplies through the year 2060.
