House burns down near Scudder Primary

More photos will be posted in Thursday's Wimberley View. (Submitted photo)

The house of Robert and Kelly Mann burned down on Monday morning on Western Road near Scudder Primary.
The home caught fire just before 9 a.m., and nobody was injured. It took the Wimberley Fire Department, who was assisted by the North Hays Fire Department, about four and a half hours to put out the flames completely.

For the full story, pick up a copy of this week's Wimberley View.

As details of how you can help the family become available, the View will update accordingly.

UPDATED: This article originally stated, mistakenly, that the house was on Scudder Lane. The house was near Scudder Primary School on Western Road.

No new tax, bond fails

By Dalton Sweat

The bond election failed to pass by a wide margin with 74.8 percent of the vote against the bond.
If the $2.85 million bond had passed, the 4.3-cent debt service tax per $100 dollar valuation of property would have been the first municipal tax in the history of Wimberley. The city runs on sales tax allocations alone with a total budget in the $1 million range annually.

A plan that has been in place for years finally came to fruition with the grand opening of the Jacob’s Well Natural Area.
“In the very first Hays County Parks Plan, Jacob’s Well was the first thing on it,” Hays County Commissioner Will Conley said at the grand opening.
It was a special moment for many. David Baker and the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association worked for years on their own to bring together the many properties that now make up the protected area.

As my time as your mayor draws to an end, I want to express my gratitude to the people of Wimberley for entrusting me with the awesome responsibilities associated with governing our city for the last eight years.  It has been at once, a deeply humbling and a thoroughly enjoyable experience.  I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with an extremely dedicated staff led by the best city manager in the state--Don Ferguson, city councils, and the many volunteers that make our city work.
