Grass fire in Mountain Crest

A grass fire in the Mountain Crest subdivision just outside of the Wimberley city limits burned about a quarter of an acre between two homes and a park.
Officials believe the fire was likely started by a cigarette that someone dropped while walking through the park, but they have not determined an official cause. 
The fire started at around noon on May 1 and fire crews left the scene around 1 p.m.

Accident on FM-32 sends two to hospital

A motorcycle and a car collided on FM-32 around 11 a.m. on Saturday. 
The names of those involved in the accident were not released.
The two people riding the motorcycle were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge in an unknown condition.

PEC: Forum called for needed transmission lines

Pedernales Electric hosting public meeting on proposed project to improve reliability
Pedernales Electric Cooperative will host a public meeting to discuss a needed transmission line upgrade designed to strengthen electric service reliability in the Wimberley and Woodcreek areas. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center.

P&Z attendance issues forcing new guidelines

The Wimberley Planning and Zoning Commission has had a problem with attendance that the Wimberley City Council is attempting to remedy.
“The council is concerned that the public’s business is taken care of as quickly and efficiently as possible,” City Administrator Don Ferguson said. “When you have to delay considerations, when people are waiting, they are concerned that it is not good public service, and we need to be better than that.”

Texas National Guard facing large cuts

News on Monday that the Texas Army National Guard is facing “potential reductions of up to 4,147 soldiers and 16 aircraft” had many wondering what effect it would have on those stationed in San Marcos, both at the unit in City Park and the BRAC enter on Clovis Barker.
According to headquarters at Camp Mabry, none of the units here are in this round of cuts.

Jacob’s Well Elementary preparing for next year

Jacob’s Well Elementary students continue to work hard on projects and assignments and are looking forward to a fun May.  We have had a fantastic year and have witnessed great student growth and progress.  Students worked extremely hard during April on the state assessments.  During May, teachers will work with students to ensure they are prepared for the next grade.  Students continue to participate in Accelerated Reading and read library books to achieve reading goals.  Once students reach reading goals, they will enjoy a water party to celebrate their hard work.

PEC receives “clean” audit for last year

Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors received the audit for the 2013 fiscal year during the Board’s regular meeting on April 21. PEC once again earned an unqualified or “clean” opinion – the best opinion an auditor can offer – from accounting firm Bolinger, Segars, Gilbert & Moss, LLP.
BSGM managing partner Robert Cobb explained the timeline and methodology of the audit, complimenting PEC’s financial staff for its level of preparation. “The preparation that your staff had in place, and the information that they had ready for us to apply audit procedures to, was outstanding,” Cobb noted. “That is not always the case in a transition year.

Ranch Road 12 construction will soon be underway

Road construction will soon begin to affect the lives of many in the Wimberley area as the Texas Department of Transportation will soon be starting work on Ranch Road 12.
The construction will be begin at the square in Wimberley and continue all the way to Sports Park Road in Dripping Springs as the county repaves the road.

The Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed May as Older Americans Month in Hays County to recognize the contributions that older Americans make to our society. Hays County is home to more than 15,000 individuals age 60 or older.
