Junior High motto ‘B GR8’

It is hard to believe that 2014-15 school year is already in the 5th week!!  It seems as if it were just yesterday that the teachers were coming back to school and getting their classrooms ready for the students to arrive on Aug. 25.  The old saying of “time flies when you are having fun” is really true!
Danforth Junior High is off to a GR8 start!  We have challenged ourselves to “B GR8” this year in all that we do.  As adults, teachers, and role models, we want to be great educators, husbands/wives, mentors, colleagues, supporters, and motivators.  As students and learners, we want them to be great classmates, citizens, friends, students, and critical thinkers.  Our motto of “B GR8” was born from an activity our staff completed combined with the technology that will define this school year in Wimberley ISD.

A good-bye ceremony for Bowen Elementary and a welcoming ground breaking for HEB was held on Thursday of last week.
Many former teachers, students and staff of Bowen Elementary were on hand to share memories about the school that opened in 1945.
“Bowen was the heart of the community,” Johnna Dennis, a W.I.S.D teacher who taught at Bowen from 1999 through 2009, said. “We could walk to Bill and M.F. Johnson’s property and learn about wildflowers. We could walk to the Winter’s House and learn about Wimberley’s history, or we could walk to the library to read. Bowen was in the center of everything.”

Hays County gets much needed rain

Dalton Sweat

Central Texas received its hardest rain in months late last week after rain started late Wednesday and continued through Sunday in much of the Hill Country.
Wimberley showed solid rainfall numbers throughout the week, but not as high as other potions of the county.
The rain seemed to cluster along the Interstate 35 corridor and the Hays and Travis county line.
“In Hays County it rained right along the Hays Travis border, where there was up to seven inches of rain,” Aaron Treadway, meteorologist for the Austin San Antonio National Weather Service, said. “As you move further south, the totals dropped off to one and a half to two inches. Across the county it was a very good rain, not a drought buster, but the most rain we have seen in at least a few months.”

The city of Wimberley officially put in a request to the Texas Water Development Board for a $5.5 million loan for the Wastewater Treatment plant. They are also considering adding further restrictions to the requested discharge permit.
“The difficulty with this request is that we are applying for money without a firm cost,” Wimberley City Administrator Don Ferguson said.

In seven or eight months, Wimberley residents could be shopping at their own local H-E-B.
The H-E-B grocery store that was approved amidst much public debate by the Wimberley City Council in January will officially break ground on Sept. 18 with the beginning of demolition starting that afternoon. The store is expected to be complete by late spring 2015.
“The Wimberley H-E-B is the result of two years of collaboration with city leaders and residents so we could meet the needs of this Hill Country community,” Leslie Sweet, H-E-B director of Public Affairs for Central Texas, said.
